[CBW_Exec] Other thoughts from the EB on CBW Mission Statement?

Another vote of agreement with Shannon: it's a strong document, with enough breadth to cover our foreseeable (and maybe unforeseeable) applications of our main values and interests. (My editor role asks for "benefiting"
to be spelled with one t.) Great work on constructing a mission statement that connects the practical and the ideal. --Bill

All,
I also agree with Shannon. As people suggest revisions, however, please know that as we were drafting, we decided to avoid the label "basic writer" because of its essentialist connotations as a fixed category. Instead, we're looking for some version of "student(s) enrolled in Basic Writing" -- an existential position rather than a permanent identity.
Thanks and best,
Susan

Hi all,
I agree with Shannon; the document is strong as it is. I also like Deborah's suggestion about making explicit connections between ourselves and 6-12 faculty. Maybe something like this: "Collaborate with secondary education faculty to facilitate smooth transitions from high school to college for students identified as basic writers."
I have created a Google doc that you should have access to by following this link:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UnoaQ_GGxJimI00hL_S762tXvExfNsJNCQP3_10lmi0/edit?hl=en&authkey=CKS2veYC
Technology being what it is, you might experience some difficulty getting to the document. I'd be happy to try to help, and can be contacted directly at tbpeele at gmail.com<mailto:tbpeele at gmail.com>. For those of you unfamiliar with Google docs, please know that you can't accidentally destroy it! It automatically saves accessible versions as you edit.

Agreed. Thanks, Steve!
For what it's worth, I think this looks great as is and am happy to
give an enthusiastic thumbs up now. Eager to see discussion that may
unfold after Friday as well.
Thanks!
