Hi, all (especially Susan, Debra, Eileen, Sugie and Bill)--

Below are Barbara¹s notes regarding the resolution in progress (Social
Justice). Some wonderful advice and support from both Barbara herself (who
is on the CCCC Resolutions Committee) and Erika Lindemann.

I¹m sending this to the entire Executive Board because we¹ll all be involved
at some level, but we thought this would be particularly useful to the folks
serving on this Ad Hoc Committee for the Social Justice Policy in progress.

Thanks!
Shannon

Shannon and Hannah,
Here are my notes on how to propose a resolution.
--Barbara

Notes from Resolutions Committee
And Advice from Erika Lindemann
March 12, 2009

5 people must sign the resolution
A resolution coming from the CBW Executive Committee would be good because
it would be from an identifiable group of individuals.
A resolution coming from the full CBW membership would not be advisable
because it involves too many people.

1. Check all resolutions on CCCC web page for similar resolutions or
resolutions with implications for the new resolution (which might be
mentioned in the body of the resolution).

2. Check all position statements on CCCC Web page for similar statements or
implications for this resolution (which might be mentioned in the body of
the resolution).

3. Check all resolutions on NCTE web page for similar resolutions (which
might be referred to in this new resolution).

4. A position statement has more weight so we might want to aim for that. In
the resolution, we can propose that a position statement be drafted.

5. Deadline for resolutions will be posted on CCCC web page and published in
CCC December issue.

6. We can contact Erika Lindemann for advice in drafting the resolution.

7. All resolutions must come to the resolutions committee first and be
discussed by that body. The committee must forward all resolutions to the
Annual Business Meeting.
The committee can edit the resolution but not change its spirit. '

8. If we don't make the deadline for proposing a resolution, we could
propose a sense of the house motion. Only one person has to sign this but it
does has to be presented prior to the Annual Business Meeting sometime and
there is a protocol for this.
