[CBW_Exec] News from IL

[Sonya Armstrong]

Hi everyone,

First, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone this week (plus
California is 'home' for me, so I'm psyched about that).

Good news? It appears that I will, in fact, survive my second year as
a rookie faculty member. I'm eager to figure out when I lose that
rookie status, but all in good time, I suppose.

I became an editor this year, which was a wonderful opportunity and
learning experience. It's the Journal of College Literacy and
Learning--a very small SIG journal. It's literacy-focused (broadly
defined), and we do have some great work on writing in there! I just
got the hard copy from the printer in the mail today, so I'm anxious to
see how this inaugural issue is received.

Also, I am currently piloting a paired reading-writing course at NIU
for students who are enrolled through the CHANCE program (NIU's version
of a developmental program). So far, it's going well and I'm looking
forward to the possibility of implementing this model on a larger scale
next year.

I am also looking forward to offering a blended (online/f2f) version of
a teaching college reading class for teachers at area community colleges
this summer.

I'm sure everyone is packing and gearing up for flights, so I'll end
here. Safe travels and see you soon!

Sonya

Hi, all--
You just received several forwards from me regarding great news from
EB
folks. From the to line, it wasn¹t clear that these went to you so I
forwarded them just in case. Apologies if you receive them twice. It
is
marvelous news, though. Perhaps it¹s worth hearing several times. ;)

I have changed the CBW EB setting, though, so that you can just hit
³reply²
and get the entire list rather than always having to click ³reply
all.²

Thanks, folks! Keep that good news rolling in! This is so much fun to
hear.

Best,
Shannon
