[CBW_Exec] FW: Welcome to the CBW executive board listserv!

I wondered about the same thing, Peter (not sure Peter's email got to
everyone. Please see below). Would dividing the current CBW full-day
workshop into two half-day workshops require the submission of two separate
proposals and, if so, might it be possible that conference organizers would
only select one?

I support both of Barbara's ideas. Even though Alan may be right about some
down sides to splitting the workshop, I think what we gain far outweighs the
losses. The only thing I worry about it that the Program Chair for the
conference, pressed by too many proposals for too few slots, might decide
not to give any organization two slots, even it they are two half day slots.
Does anyone know how to check this out:?

I like the idea of requiring graduate students--regardless of status (full
time/part time) to pay the reduced fee.

And I like very much the idea of breaking the CBW Workshop into two
sessions. I wish every workshop would do that, especially since I feel so
torn every year when it comes to my own workshop attendence. Last year I had
to miss the CBW Workshop entirely, for example, because it conflicted with a
full-day IWCA workshop.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you are suggesting that we continue to
offer the CBW Workshop Wednesday (as always), but divide the workshop we
have traditionally offered as a single event into two separate workshops?
Thus, I could attend all day if I wanted to (at $40) or I could select the
morning session (at $20) or the afternoon session (at $20). I like that idea
very much, for all the reasons Barbara suggests.

Thanks Susan.

My concerns are

1. There is a $30 student fee for the entire CCCC convention , but that only
applies to "full-time students."
What I'm proposing is that the $30 fee apply for all grad students
regardless of whether they are enrolled full-time or part-time. (I don't
even know what constitutes part-time or full-time for a grad student
attending CCCC. It's not spelled out.)

2. For the pre-convention workshops, the fees are the same for everyone: $40
for an all-day workshop and $20 for a half-day workshop. And if you attend
only 1/2 of an all-day workshop, you still pay $40. There are no reduced
fees for grad students or contingent faculty.

3. One thing that would make CBW immediately more accessible to grad
students and contingent faculty would be forming two half-day workshops at
$20 each. That wouldn't require a change in fee structure. And I think some
people only want to attend CBW preconvention workshop for 1/2 day for
several different reasons.
