<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Dear A&M-Commerce Lion family,<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">This week’s weather events, and the power, water, and internet access issues that ensued, have added to what has certainly been a challenging year for the
university community. This academic year has forced us to adapt and improvise in a myriad of ways, but you have proven resilient and nimble and have risen to the occasion at every turn to meet the needs of students and colleagues.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">But, we must remain as flexible and compassionate with each other and with students as possible as we push through the coming weeks. While better weather
appears to be on the horizon, it is likely that some employees and students could have lingering issues with power, water, and internet connectivity, which will require understanding and appropriate accommodation. Due to water damage, classes offered face
to face in the Nursing & Health Sciences building are moving to other classroom spaces on campus and faculty will communicate directly with students as to the form and location of classes until this building is ready again for classwork. Moreover, with the
weekend thaw, it is possible that our campus could experience additional water leaks, so we must all be ready to react if situations change. The following guidelines will help steer us as we emerge from the effects of this weather crisis:<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">1.) SACSCOC and THECB policies do not require that we make-up contact hours lost this past week. That means no additional days will be added to the semester,
and the academic calendar will still be in force, apart from some specific changes enumerated below. That leaves us with the dilemma of what is essential and what is not for our students’ academic growth.
<span style="color:black;background:white">It is at the discretion of the instructor to determine what needs to be covered and how to make up for lost content. If an instructor decides to make up content, please do so over the remainder of the semester. Be
realistic about your approach to this challenge in a manner that safeguards your own wellbeing and capacity to complete. Do not “catch-up” in a manner that disregards students’ sense of being overwhelmed. More than likely, if you take care of yourselves, you
will also be taking care of your students. Please be sure to utilize the full range of options available to us in terms of content delivery. Your contact for assistance is the Office of Academic Technology 903-886-5511.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">2.) Be prepared for further dislocations in the coming weeks. Warm weather may reveal damaged infrastructure—on campus, on the roads leading to campus,
in our or students homes, etc. An example is the temporary loss of the Nursing and Health Sciences building. As in that case, be prepared, but also be flexible. The University will find a way to work through the challenge to accomplish our mission. Report
damaged infrastructure/leaks on campus to SSC Facilities at 903-468-3244. In the event of an emergency leak, please report to UPD at 903-886-5868. Report IT issues to the Help Desk at 903-468-6000.

<b>This directive applies to all graded activities or exams originally scheduled or due Monday, Feb. 15 through Wednesday, Feb. 24.</b></span> Nursing faculty will communicate directly with their students any changed expectations. While this may seem to contradict
Number 1 above, our students and faculty need relief from the press of this coming Monday.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

taxed us and this unprecedented weather event has added to that stress. Reach out when you need help to department heads, deans, and supervisors. We all need each other to get through this. Receive students’ concerns and meet their needs in that same spirit.
I’m proud of all that you have done and what you will continue to do, as we endeavor to transform the lives of our students. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
