<i>Don’t Be Fooled: Recognizing & Avoiding Predatory Publishers</i>! Yesterday, Mr. Beall alerted us to current scams with scholarly open-access publishing. Mr. Beall is the only monitoring entity (there are no known regulatory bodies to police predatory publishers)
and uses his Scholarly Open Access blog, <a href="http://scholarlyoa.com/other-pages/research/">
http://scholarlyoa.com/other-pages/research/</a>, to caution against predatory or questionable publishers.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">On his website, you will find his criteria for evaluating scholarly open-access publishers and journals,

scholarly work. You will also find his list of 742 questionable scholarly open-access publishers and 585 questionable stand-alone journals, at last count. Additionally, a list of 34 hijacked or counterfeit journals and 27 misleading metrics are included.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Mr. Beall shared several tools to help you determine the credibility and quality of scholarly publishers: 1) his black lists; 2) white lists developed by your discipline’s
professional organizations, institution, college, and/or department; 3) the journal’s impact factor from a credible metrics service; and 4) databases that include quality peer-reviewed literature, such as Directory of Open Access Journals, Open Access Scholarly
Publishers Association, EBSCOhost Online Research Databases, and Elsevier Scopus. This information is available on the CFEI website at
