Graduate Council met Tuesday, November 11, 2008, in the MSC Boardroom at 3:00
p.m. with Dean Allan D. Headley presiding. Members present were: Dr. Ken
Alford, Dr. Harry Fullwood, Dr. John Hanners, Dr. <st1:PersonName w:st="on">John
Humphreys</st1:PersonName>, Dr. <st1:PersonName w:st="on">Ben Jang</st1:PersonName>,
Dr. Jeff Kopachena, Dr. Sharon Kowalsky, Ms. Jonne Atkins for Ms. LeAnn Nash,
Dr. <st1:PersonName w:st="on">Linda Openshaw</st1:PersonName>, Dr. Chester
Robinson, Dr. Derek Royal, Ms. Stacey Stancik, Dr. <st1:PersonName w:st="on">Jon
Travis</st1:PersonName>, Dr. Janet Walker, and Dr. Dayle Yeager. Dr. Steven

Funding & Accountability</span></i> and how proposed changes will affect
A&M-Commerce. He also mentioned the Coordinating Board’s <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>18</span></i> <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Characteristics
of Texas Public Doctoral Programs, </span></i>and pointed out that for our 6
doctoral programs, this information will be made available on the web next
spring.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

style='font-size:12.0pt'>Dr. Travis presented a committee report to make
changes to procedure 11.04.99.R0.11 <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Admission
to the Graduate School</span></i>. The committee recommended adding another
option for graduate students who are admitted to a master’s degree
program on probationary status to achieve full admissions status. The Council
unanimously approved the following option: Complete 9 semester hours of
graduate coursework with a graduate GPA of at least 3.40, no grades below B and
approval of the major department. The proposed changes will be submitted to
Deans Council for review.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

procedure 11.04.99.R0.19 <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Graduate Student
Course Loads</span></i> to indicate that a doctoral student admitted to candidacy
and enrolled in 3 hours of 718 dissertation credit will be considered
half-time. The Council unanimously approved the report which will now be
considered by Deans Council.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

Enrollment Committee Scholarship Initiatives for Spring 2009. There is only a
short time to get the word out about the Stimulus Scholarships and faculty will

Student Research Symposium and the Pathways Junior Faculty Workshop hosted by
A&M-Commerce on November 7 & 8, 2008, were successful. There were 475
students and 209 posters at the Research Symposium and 48 junior faculty
registered for the workshop.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
