alt=".NExT Progress to Date We began migrating to the latest version of eCollege (.NExT) during the Fall 2008 term. About 12 online courses from across disciplines were migrated and are currently being taught on the .NExT platform. Instructors of these courses have teamed with us to identify existing issues and items needing further ‘tweaking’ by eCollege. Faculty members participating in this small pilot roll-out of .NExT have been positive about the appearance and new functionality of .NExT. Student reports received to date have been positive as well. We continue to address issues with eCollege as they arise. What’s Next? All Spring 2009 Courses to be Offered on .NExT! All Spring 2009 courses (online and web-enhanced) are targeted to be taught on the .NExT platform. The migration/conversion of courses to the .NExT platform will be handled in three (3) rounds over approximately the next three (3) months. The Process—Migrating/Converting Courses to .NExT 1.        eCollege will copy existing courses into a special eCollege migration term which         begins the migration process.. .                  IMPORTANT NOTE FOR INSTRUCTORS: Changes made to courses after the         dates provided in the above table will not be carried over to the .NExT mi        grated/converted course. Changes made by the instructor to his/her existing         courses after the date provided in this table will also need to be made by the in        structor to the .NExT course when the course has completed the migration         round/cycle. eCollege uses a migration conversion tool to move the course material (exams, quizzes, content, doc sharing files, so forth) from the existing course into the new .NExT format. eCollege performs a ‘quality assessment’ (QA) of the courses-a check that course content (exams, content, doc sharing files, so forth) is functional Instructors complete a QA of their individual course(s)-a check that course content (exams, content, doc sharing files, so forth) is functional. eCollege moves courses which have been QA’d to a .NExT migrated term. Courses are copied into the active spring 2009 term. So What Does an Instructor Need to Keep in Mind? Please note each of the following points regarding the migration to .NExT. The full migration and quality assurance (QA) testing will take approximately three weeks on the eCollege end (for each migration round). If changes are made to the content of the source courses during the migration period (i.e. for Round 2 this is from October 6 to approximately October 31st), the changes will not be reflected in the final .NExT course, meaning that instructors should refrain from editing course content during this time. After the migration process, instructors will be asked their courses for quality assurance. This means they will need to go through each unit and confirm that all content is functional. After the migration and QA is finished, the content will be copied into the instructor’s course(s) and the instructor will be allowed to make content updates before the term starts 5.        Courses that are being migrated/converted are the courses we will be using going forward. We will not be able to copy courses from the current platform for future terms. Training, Support and Resources are Available All instructors will be enrolled in a .NExT Instructor Tutorial and Instructional Design Tutorial, accessible from the ‘Special Courses’ term under each instructor’s ‘myCourses’ tab in eCollege. A Blog site is available which outlines current known issues in .NExT (www.tamu-commerce.edu/itde/blog .NExT small group tours will be scheduled for faculty who wish a guided tour session. "
