We invite all faculty and staff to a virtual CATIE webinar on January 28 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. via Zoom. Please share!

Happy New Year! We're kicking off the semester with an engaging webinar featuring Christopher Benedetti, PhD, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership and Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Dr. Benedetti also serves as the university's AI Faculty Fellow, supporting ethical and reflective uses of AI in teaching and learning.

Webinar Topic: Why Students Turn to AI, and What Faculty Can Do About It

Students are using AI tools in our courses, but often not because they want to cheat. This session reframes AI misuse as a response to academic pressure, misaligned expectations, and gaps in readiness. Participants will examine how generative AI can simulate understanding while masking learning challenges, and how instructional design choices shape ethical AI use. Practical strategies and facilitated discussion will help instructors across disciplines rethink how AI fits into teaching, assessment, and student support.
