Today is the "Mask Up for Writing" sessions designed for our students.
Please encourage your students to attend one of the session being held today!
On Tuesday, March 1, the University is sponsoring a campus-wide event, "Mask Up for Writing", which is designed to assist students improve their writing skills. "Mask Up for Writing" is designed to support the foundations of writing. Mr. Erik Cork, Guest Speaker, will deliver a high-energy, interactive workshop in two sessions, 9:30-11:00 a.m. and 12:30-2:00 p.m., in the Ferguson Auditorium. The event's activities are designed to promote better command of written composition and language skills. The workshop complements the services provided by the University's Writing Center, and supports university-wide effort to inspire TAMUC students to become more proficient writers.
As reflected on his website, Mr. Cork closes the achievement gap between what real-world business leaders require (before they hire) and the wide gulf where today's short-attention-span generation struggles daily due to huge holes & cracks within their shaky writing foundation. Mr. Cork is a full-time writer who enthusiastically teaches thousands about his craft in a digital age where young people prefer emojis and the fewest letters possible when they communicate. He passionately reminds them that spelling is still important. He convinces them that capitalization is cool and that correct punctuation is still preferred. Mr. Cork loudly proclaims in school assemblies that synonyms still exist and complete sentences are not yet extinct.
I encourage each of you to permit your students to attend one of the scheduled sessions, especially students who are enrolled in ENG 100, ENG 1301 and ENG 1302.
Again the sessions will be held on Tuesday, March 1 in the Ferguson Auditorium and are identical but will be offered at two different times so students can choose which time works best with their schedules.
* 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
* 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
