[VPAAEtal] Blackboard Ally: Universal Design and Accessibility Tool

Hello faculty,

We are happy to announce that Blackboard Ally<http://www.tamuc.edu/facultyStaffServices/academictechnology/accessibility/ally-accessibility-checker.aspx> will be enabled for all Summer II course shells in myLeo Online.  This tool is integrated with D2L to provide feedback and guidance on potential improvements for universal design and accessibility considerations of course content.

There are a three key components that Ally displays within your course:


*         Accessibility Score Indicators- Instructor facing widgets which provide an accessibility score for uploaded content, with specific tips on how to improve the content accessibility. These widgets are viewable to instructors only, the Ally Score Indicator is not viewable by students.


*         Overall Course Accessibility Report will provide the instructor a top level view of potential issues in the course, along with guidance on how to address these issues. The course level report is not viewable by students.


*         Alternative Format Widget- A student and instructor facing widget allows for them to download an alternative format of the content to facilitate different learning styles. Alternative formats are available for both the instructor and students to download. You can raise awareness of this feature for your students by making a course announcement


Please populate course content for your summer II course shells in myLeo Online to see the Ally tool in action.

Starting on the 9th, we will provide multiple training sessions in June and July to help faculty learn more about the Ally system.  You can register for sessions from the Training and Development website<https://appsprod.tamuc.edu/td/CourseCalendar.aspx>.
