Dear A&M-Commerce faculty:
Thank you again for your efforts in quickly, and creatively, moving all courses online in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Although you made the transition successfully, we recognize that there could be negative implications for some faculty due to the shift in modalities. As a result, A&M-Commerce is implementing the following steps to mitigate potential adverse effects for our faculty:
1) Tenure clocks for tenure-track (i.e., probationary) faculty members will be extended by one year.
* This extension does not apply to probationary faculty already notified of non-renewal.
2) With the extension of tenure clocks, 3rd year reviews of probationary faculty, originally due to the Provost's office this week, will be postponed to the Spring 2021 semester.
3) Tenure clock extensions will not preclude qualified faculty members (i.e., probationary faculty members meeting departmental tenure and promotion criteria) from seeking tenure and promotion based on their initial timeline.
4) Student evaluations of teaching in individual courses will be canceled for the Spring 2020 semester. Instead, IE/IR will conduct another check-in survey to get a sense of the students' collective view of the university's response to the crisis.
And keep up the good work. I know that many of you are more engaged then ever with your students during this uncertain time and your efforts are appreciated.
Stay well!
John
