Colleagues
Early intervention grade checks began yesterday through EAB (The reporting link was sent directly to your email). We ask that you report on two populations:
1.) All students enrolled in your 1000/2000-level courses with a particular focus on Freshman and Sophomores.
2.) All athletes enrolled in any course assigned to you.
Please provide whatever grade information you have, specific areas for improvement, attendance if you track it, and any other behaviors impeding success in your course. Finally, indicate if you think the student is "At Risk" of doing poorly in the course given your observations.
Early intervention grade checks have been occurring in one form or another since 2005.
This past year, a working group, including Drs. Andrea Graham and Stephen Starnes, helped devise a more targeted approach to this reporting. EAB is a smart technology. Your reporting feeds its internal risk model. As that model grows smarter, we can refine our grade requests still further in the future.
Please provide your reports by 09/27/19. You will receive periodic reminders. The professional advising offices will then conduct outreach during weeks six and seven of the semester.
Professional advisors offer broad recommendations about how to improve, and then refer students to you as the best authority on your particular course. We hope this effort starts conversations between faculty and student that might not otherwise occur.
Thanks in advance for your help and dedication.
Ricky Dobbs, Ph. D.
Professor of History
Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
