Faculty,

The Faculty Senate hereby issues the call for nominees for the Faculty Senate's annual faculty awards.

A list of all Faculty Awards along with descriptions of each can be found at the following link:
http://www.tamuc.edu/aboutUs/policiesProceduresStandardsStatements/rulesProcedures/12faculty/general/12.99.99.R0.03.pdf
The nomination process for awards is as follows:

Senators from each department will submit a ballot listing one and only one nominee for each award. A copy of the ballot is attached to this e-mail for the purpose of illustration. Faculty can self-nominate by notifying their department's Senator. Faculty can also nominate a colleague in their department by notifying their department's Senator. If more than one individual is nominated for a particular award from the same department, the department should reach consensus on which faculty member's nomination will go forward. The Senate encourages all faculty within a department to talk with each other to determine who should be nominated for a particular award. Your department's senator will submit your department's nomination form to the chair of the Faculty Senate awards committee. Nominations should include the full names of the nominees, the nominees' academic department, and their full e-mail addresses. The nomination deadline is the third Friday in November, November 16, 2018.

The selection process for the awards is as follows:

The chair of the Senate Awards committee (Dr. Bilal Abu Bakr) will contact those who have been nominated for an award. Contact will be made by a deadline of the second Tuesday in December (December 11, 2018). If you were nominated for an award and have not received contact from the awards chair by this deadline, contact the awards chair to ensure that the nomination was received. The awards chair will ask each nominee to provide supporting documentation for the committee's review. The material should be submitted via e-mail to Faculty.Awards at tamuc.edu by the deadline of the first Tuesday in February (February 5, 2019). The awards committee members will review each application packet and after careful deliberation, the committee will make one recommendation per award (except the Barrus award which can have up to three awards) to the full Faculty Senate for approval at the April Senate meeting (first Tuesday in April, April 2, 2019).

Attached to this e-mail is a document showing the name of each department's Senator.

The award recipients will be announced at the Faculty Award Luncheon in April 2019 (date TBA). We try to keep the recipient's name a surprise until the ceremony, so if you have been nominated for an award please plan to attend the ceremony (being nominated for an award is an accomplishment itself!).

We hope that by both publicizing this process and the list of awards early in the academic year that we will increase the number of deserving nominees who are given due consideration. Thank you very much for your assistance in nominating and recognizing your talented and hard-working peers!

Faculty Senate Awards Committee Chair, Dr. Bilal Abu-Bakr, will both receive the completed ballots as well as answer any questions you may have about the awards. Dr. Abu Bakr can be contacted by e-mail: Bilal.Abu.Bakr at tamuc.edu, or phone; (903) 886-5405.

As you can see, our goal (and what is required by the Senate constitution) is to have at least two representatives from each college on the awards committee in order to try and achieve a comprehensive/balanced review of each application.

Committee members can be faculty, staff or students. If more faculty from the College of Business or College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources want to join the committee to increase your representation, please contact Dr. Abu-Bakr to express your interest.

The more help the committee has the better - as you can imagine, this is a labor-intensive process in February/March when applications are under review (thank a Senator on this committee when you see one).
