Texas A&M University- Commerce will observe Constitution Day on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 11:00AM until noon in the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center Pride Room.

This year’s observance will focus upon the history and debates surrounding the Equal Rights Amendment, a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution intended to guarantee equal rights for all citizens regardless of sex. Though it was first proposed in 1923, it was not passed by Congress until 1972, and only 36 of the required 38 states have ratified the proposed amendment.

Our speaker for Constitution Day is a scholar who brings important historical perspectives to this issue. Dr. Sharon A. Kowalsky, Gender Studies Coordinator and Associate Professor of History, specializes in Women, Gender, and Sexuality History.

Refreshments will be served and an opportunity for questions will follow the speaker’s presentation. Faculty are encouraged to invite or bring their students.
