The University College is proud to announce the 2017-2018 Book in Common, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

All first-time full-time freshmen receive a copy of this book at new student orientation.

Studies show that a common intellectual experience is a high impact practice, so we urge the university community to participate and read the book along with our freshmen. Copies will be available for checkout from Gee Library in July.

During the 2017-2018 academic year we will host a series of events surrounding the book. In fact, Rebecca Skloot has committed to giving a talk on campus, and the date will be announced soon.

The Book in Common is part of the First-Year TRAC, our new freshman retention initiative. For more information, visit tamuc.edu/TRAC
