School of Agriculture – Recruitment Day on Campus
Annual State Qualifying FFA Contests
Wednesday, April 12, 2017
To All Faculty and Staff,

The School of Agriculture at Texas A&M University-Commerce will host its annual state qualifying Future Farmers of America (FFA) contests this week on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

Area high school students will be on our campus as well as at the Civic Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas. We will utilize various facilities and buildings on campus; therefore, please be patient as we recruit for the University. This event is the number one activity for the year where A&M-Commerce is showcased to thousands of FFA members from north central and northeast Texas. This area extends from Weatherford to Texarkana and from Tyler to the Texas/Oklahoma state line.

Agriculture majors as well as other student leadership groups will assist with activities on this day. We will need the assistance and support of all faculty and staff to make this a successful event. Students will be involved with various activities throughout the day. Please excuse students from class who are volunteering with this event and allow individuals as appropriate to make up assignments (i.e. exams, quizzes, labs practicums, etc.) and/or submit assignments early. Research has shown that 20% of all non-AG majors attended this event while in high school AND that 2/3 of all agriculture majors attended this event prior to attending college as AG majors. We will study the retention and graduation rates for these students in the future.

April 12th is not only an important recruitment day for the School of Agriculture but for the entire campus. Your support in attracting and recruiting high quality students for the university is greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to contact the School of Agriculture if there are questions.
