The Start of Term (SOT) online course survey, conducted at the start of each fall and spring semester, serves to identify students' initial attitudes, values, and beliefs about courses and helps faculty address them effectively. The SOT also amplifies the opportunities for constructing meaningful dialogues between instructors and students, while elevating the campus' climate of mutual respect.
The schedule for administration of the Start of Term survey for fall 2016 is presented below:
Date
Activity
6 September
Start of Term survey to be posted to each online student's message board in eCollege
14 September
Start of Term surveys on eCollege will no longer be available to students
15 September
Results will be available to instructors and department heads
Availability of Results -
Individual instructors will be able to access the results from the Start of Term surveys in the same fashion as they currently access the SRTEs from their courses. Each instructor can locate the SOT results for each course by navigating to your Pearson LearningStudio (eCollege) course shell from the Fall 2016 W1 term, select "Course Admin," and then "Survey Results" from the menu. Individual course instructors will not be to access results prior to the completion of the survey (14 September 2016).
The most notable change for fall 2016 is that CFEI will prepare a summary report for each Department Head presenting aggregated quantitative and qualitative SOT feedback from students taking courses within their department. For confidentiality and end-user convenience, these departmental SOT results will be placed into the same secured server folder entitled COURSE EVALUATION file. This is the same file location that is currently being used to store paper-based SRTE results. Each department head can use their unique sign-in privileges to access their department's aggregated results. The expected production date of this report is Friday, 16 September 2016.

Upon request, department heads can be provided with summary reports from any particular course/instructor within their department.
