Dear Faculty:
Please find below and attached the formal procedure for those who wish to submit their applications for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award, along with the requirements. We have extended the application process to November 2nd, 2015.
Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award - 2016
The Faculty Senate Awards Committee is accepting applications for the 2016 Piper Professor representing Texas A&M University - Commerce. The award is based on recognition of the collegiate teaching profession rather than on research, publication, administration, or other related activities (although these activities are also considered in the selection process). The honoree will be awarded a certificate naming them "Piper Professors of 2016", a cash honorarium of $5,000, and a gold commemorative pin.
Requirements: Full time instructor (including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor).
Process: The award is highly competitive. A&M-Commerce can only put forth one application to the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation. To apply, a nominee should email following electronic documents to Dr. Benjamin May, Chair, Faculty Senate Awards Committee Benjamin.may at tamuc.edu<mailto:Benjamin.may at tamuc.edu>): (a) the completed two-part form from the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation (see attached, pages 1A-3A and 1B-4B), (b) up to 5 letters of recommendation (from colleagues, administrators and/or students), and (c) limited additional documentation of qualifications.
Timeline: All electronic applications should be received by the Awards committee by November 5, 2015. The Awards Committee will review the applications and select the top 2-3 finalists by November 4, 2015. Awards committee recommendations will be presented to the full Senate at its November 3 meeting. The Faculty Senate will make its recommendations to the Provost's office by November 7. Recommendations for the award are due to the President for final selection by November 14, 2015. The application that will go forward from A&M-Commerce is due to the foundation by November 21, 2015. The 10 Piper Professors of 2015 will be announced by the foundation May 1, 2016.
