RE:                        Research Expenditures and No-Cost Extensions

As you may be aware, institutions of higher education are evaluated for their research productivity based on research expenditures.  Texas A&M University-Commerce is the second largest A&M System institution, yet places near the bottom of all A&M System institutions in research expenditures.  We need to change this and we are going to be putting into place different programs to increase the expenditure of grant funds on time.  Our goal is for all grant funds to be expended before the end of the grant period.  If you are having difficulty reaching this goal, please work with the Project Administrators in the ORSP to provide you with options for expending the funds in a timely manner.  In addition, no-cost extensions must be approved by the Vice Provost for Research at least three months before the end of the grant period.  These extensions are to be an exception and not commonplace.  We highly value your work at this institution and look forward to our research expenditure rate improving dramatically over the next year.
