I wish to announce following a campus wide search this spring that Dr.
Dan Edelman, currently Interim Associate Provost and Vice President for
Academic Affairs, has been selected to fill the position on a permanent
basis, effective with this announcement. A campus wide screening
committee comprised of Mr. Rex Giddens, Dr. Sharon Johnson, Dr. Chuck
Arize, Dr. Martha Foote, Dr. Mary Beth Sampson, Dr. Grady Blount and Dr.
Melinda Schlager reviewed four completed applications for the position,
interviewed applicant references, and conducted formal interviews with
each applicant before arriving at their final ratings. Their input and
assistance in this matter were extremely helpful and very much
appreciated.
Dr. Edelman earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration at
Loyola University of Chicago; his master's degree in Accounting at
Roosevelt University, and his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at Illinois
Institute of Technology. He came to Texas A&M University-Commerce in
September 2007 as Assistant Professor of Accounting, and after serving
as Associate Professor and Department Head of Accounting, was named
interim associate provost/vpaa in June 2012. The associate provost/vpaa
serves as the provost's primary budget officer and principal assistant
on a wide variety of academic, curricular and personnel issues in the
Division of Academic Affairs. I share the screening committee's
assessment that Dan will serve the incumbent provost as ably as he has
served the interim these past few months and invite you to join with me
in congratulating him on his appointment.
Gary G. Peer, Ed.D.
Interim Provost/VPAA
