THIS MESSAGE SENT ON BEHALF OF CATHERINE PARSONEAULT

Dear Accountability System Peer Group Members,

Attached is the call for papers for the annual meeting of the
Association for General and Liberal Studies (AGLS), which will be held
here in Austin in October 2010. It's not an expensive conference to
attend, and is very much engaged with issues of general education and
core curriculum that the UEAN as well as the peer groups have been
considering recently.

Dr. Marianne Hopper (Dean, University Programs, St. Edward's
University), who serves currently on the Undergraduate Education
Advisory Committee here at the CB, is active in the AGLS. St. Edward's
University and Austin Community Colleges are co-sponsoring the event. We
would love to see Texas well represented in the presenter list as well
as the participant list! It's a great opportunity for you or those with
whom you work to focus on general education, core curriculum, and
related matters, and to meet others from around the country who are
similarly engaged.

Please distribute this information widely among your professional
colleagues. If you have questions, you can contact me or Marianne. Note
that the date for submitting proposals is upon us - and I apologize for
not getting this information to you in a more timely manner. I hope the
AGLS committee will cut us some slack if you request it, but I'd
recommend making your proposal promptly!

With all good wishes,

Catherine

AGLS serves colleges and universities by fostering strong General
Education programs. General Education is that part of the curriculum
required of all students and dedicated specifically to liberal learning
- the development of knowledge, skills, values, and habits of mind
characteristic of an educated person. The members of AGLS comprise a
community intent upon improving liberal learning by advocating the
centrality of general education and supporting its continuous
improvement.
