Faculty Members,

If you wish to sign up for the TAMUS Teaching Excellence Award, please
go to your MyLeo account - all eligible courses should be listed for you
to select the one(s) you wish to register for the program. The ABSOLUTE
DEADLINE for registering for the program is Friday, October 23, 2009 at
5:00 pm.

Also, here are some answers from the System on some FAQs.

1. Faculty members can only win one award per ACADEMIC year - thus
if you won in the spring semester, you can enter and be eligible to win
this semester as the new academic year began September 1.

2. If you are part-time administrator and part-time teaching, you are
eligible to enter and win IF you meet all the other criteria show below
and on the attached. (i.e. Eligible classes include: a. Classes of 3
semester credit hours (SCH) or more, b. Classes with an enrollment of
15 or more students, c. A minimum of two-thirds of the students enrolled
(based on the 20th class day report) completing the teaching evaluation;
& Faculty must directly teach a minimum of 90% of each course to be
eligible.)

3. Cross-listed courses - from the System interpretation:

The third issue has to do with cross-listed courses (same course,
different names) in which one of the listings has enough students to be
eligible, but the other doesn't...

"If the two courses, i.e. MATH 435 and STAT 472, meet at the same time
and at the same location and taught by the same instructor, the two
courses can be combined and submitted as one course for purposes of
determining eligibility. The cross-listed course must now meet the
eligibility requirements as shown above. Additionally, the cross-listed
course must be shown as cross-listed course with both courses listed,
i.e. MATH 435 and STAT 472, when the survey results are submitted to
TAMUS for verification."

After everyone has completed registering the courses for participation,
and participation is confirmed, you will be given instructions on how
students are to complete the evaluation survey.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Texas A&M University System Fall 2009 Teaching Excellence Awards Program

All A&M-Commerce faculty members (graduate assistants, adjuncts,
lecturers, instructors, assistant/associate/full professors, full-time
or part-time, tenured, tenure-track and non-tenure track) teaching
classes of 3 SCH or more, with an enrollment of 15 or more students, are
eligible to participate in the System's Fall 2009 Teaching Excellence
Awards Program. Faculty members must also directly teach a minimum of
90% of each course to be eligible.

Awards will be selected solely on the basis of a student Faculty
Evaluation form which is comprised of sixteen questions. No other
criteria will be used to determined awards. Evaluations must be
received from a minimum of two-thirds of the students enrolled in the
class on the 20th class day report. While faculty members are eligible
to receive only one award, faculty members who wish to register for the
competition may enter all current courses they are teaching this term
(fall, 2009), or only specifically selected one(s).

Faculty who register by the October 23 deadline will receive formal
confirmation of participation from the Provost's Office and the specific
course(s) you are registering for the competition. Following
confirmation of the participants, further information will be provided
by the Provost's Office regarding instructions you are to give students
in participating courses as to how to complete the evaluation.

Additional Information

* Participation is strictly voluntary and results will not be
used in a faculty member's reappointment, tenure and/or promotion
reviews.

* The 16 item evaluation form to be completed by students was
jointly developed by the Chancellor's Student Advisory Board, System
Faculty Senates, Presidents and Provosts of System Schools and the
System's Administrative Staff.

* Each campus' Provost is responsible for collecting, analyzing,
and reporting the results of the student evaluations.

How to Register

Faculty registration will be available from Thursday, October 15, 2009
through Friday, October 23, 2009 at 5:00 pm. If you wish to register, go
to your MyLeo account and select the specific course(s) you wish to
register for the competition.

For further information or clarification, please contact the Provost's
Office. A set of guidelines sent by the System Office is attached.

Thank you for your participation.
