The Quality Enhancement Committee is in the process of recommending a
topic area for the first phase or "Phase 1" for a university-wide
quality enhancement plan (QEP) to facilitate compliance with the
university's regional accrediting body, the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS). The data from Phase 1 will be used to
improve student learning and to prepare for Phase 2 just prior to the
university's next reaffirmation visit.
SACS Core Requirement 2.12 -- The institution has developed an
acceptable Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that (1) includes a
broad-based institutional process identifying key issues emerging from
institutional assessment, (2) focuses on learning outcomes and/or the
environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of
the institution, (3) demonstrates institutional capability for the
initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP, (4) includes
broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the
development and proposed implementation of the QEP, and (5) identifies
goals and a plan to assess their achievement.
This effort presents an opportunity to engage the university community
in meaningful improvement of student learning and performance. The
process for topic development must be broad-based; therefore, critical
input was solicited from faculty, staff, administration, students, and
alumni via focus groups and electronic surveys. Data analysis identified
four emerging themes.
Student learning is the responsibility of the entire university
community, and it is vital that every segment of the community be
involved in the selection and implementation of the Phase 1 topic. This
survey contains the four themes based upon your input. We seek your
assistance in selecting the topic for implementation over the next three
years for Phase 1. Once the topic is selected, the university community
will work to develop, implement and assess the QEP. Your participation
in this survey is absolutely critical to ensuring that this process
transcends accreditation compliance to truly improve student performance
and learning at our institution.
We appreciate your input,
Your Texas A&M University-Commerce QEP Committee
