Subject: [VPAAEtal] TAMU System Teaching Excellence Award Program
TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD PROGRAM
TAMU -Commerce faculty (adjuncts, lecturers, instructors, assistant
/associate/ full professors) teaching one or more classes of 3 semester
credit hours enrolling 15 or more students each are eligible to
participate in the Texas A&M University System's Teaching Excellence
Award competition this Spring, 2009 semester.
Winners are selected exclusively on the basis of a 16 item student
evaluation of instruction developed by the System. Evaluations must be
received from a minimum of two-thirds of the students enrolled in the
class on the 20th class day report. Individual awards on each
participating campus vary from a minimum of $2,500 to a maximum of
$10,000 depending upon the student evaluations and the number enrolled
in the "participating course". While faculty are eligible to receive
only one award, faculty who wish to register for the competition may
enter all current courses they are teaching this term (Spring 2009) in
the competition, or only specifically selected one(s). There is ,
however, an absolute deadline for registration, - Thursday, MARCH 12 -
5:00 p.m.
Faculty who register to participate by the above deadline will receive
formal confirmation of participation from this office and the specific
course(s) you are entering in the competition. Following confirmation
of the participants, further information will be provided to
participants by this office regarding instructions you are to give
students in participating classes for completing their evaluations of
you. The student evaluations are to occur within the last eight (8)
weeks of the Spring 2009 term and be completed by a deadline
established by the University. These particulars will be detailed in
those same instructions.
Additional Facts About the Competition:
1. Participation is strictly voluntary and the results can not be used
in a faculty member's reappointment, tenure or promotion reviews.
2. The 16 item evaluation form completed by students was jointly
developed by the Chancellor's Student Advisory Board, System Faculty
Senates, Presidents and Provosts of System Schools and the System's
Administrative Staff.
3. Though faculty may enter in the competition as many of their
assigned courses for the term as they wish, they may receive only one
award per semester.
4. Faculty must directly teach a minimum of 90% of each course entered
in the competition.
5. Each campus' Provost is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and
reporting the results of the student evaluations to the President who
shall than make the awards.
HOW TO REGISTER?
Faculty registration will be available via MyLeo from Monday, March 2 -
Thursday, March 12 at 5:00 p.m. The absolute deadline for registration
is 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12. During the registration process,
faculty will need to identify the specific course(s) they wish to enter
into the competition.
