Faculty,

The following information was emailed to you in the Instructional Design
Unit electronic newsletter sent to all faculty, the Online Learning
InfoCast. We are piloting the use of READI this semester for our online
courses. We've heard some good reports from some faculty who have already
implemented the use of READI in their courses. In that this is a pilot
semester, we request that you consider including the use of READI in your
online courses.

The Readiness for Education At a Distance Indicator (READI) is a web-based
tool designed to serve as an early warning device to identify students who
may be deficient in the skills and attributes necessary for successful
distance learning. READI indicates the degree to which an individual student
possesses attributes, skills and knowledge that contribute to success in
online learning, including: self-motivation; time-management skills;
self-discipline; reading comprehension; persistence; ability to use a
laptop, printer, software and the Internet; and typing speed and accuracy.
READI provides an immediate score and diagnostic interpretation of results
to the student and the instructor

If you would like your online students to take advantage of the resources
provided through READI, include this link in your online course
<http://tamuc.readi.info/> http://tamuc.readi.info/. Additionally, provide
students with instructions to login to this site with the following
username/password combination: tamuc/online. Students will be directed to
create a personal login and be given access to take the assessment.

Then, as the course instructor you will want to gain access to the reports
generated by student completion of the READI assessment. If you have begun
using READI or are now going to include it in your course, e-mail
<mailto:online at tamu-commerec.edu> online at tamu-commerce.edu requesting that
we create an instructor/administrative READI login for you to access your
student reports.

Contact us if you have additional questions or if we may be of further
assistance.
