RE: Graduate Certificate Programs
DATE: March 30, 2007
The University recently approved the offering of Graduate Certificates, a
new category of graduate programs. Graduate Certificates are designed to
meet the academic and career needs of graduate students and employed
professionals in a defined field of study. These certificates will enhance
the educational opportunities by providing students with a concentrated and
cohesive area of study, with specified learning objectives and competencies.
Applicants to a Graduate Certificate program must have obtained a bachelor's
degree from a regionally accredited institution. A major advantage for
students of Graduate Certificates is that they may apply up to 18 semester
hours from their graduate certificate program toward a graduate degree at
Texas A&M University-Commerce if they eventually decide to pursue a graduate
degree. In additional to receiving a certificate at the completion of their
program, the student's official transcript will list the graduate
certificates completed at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
New Graduate Certificate programs may be developed by an academic department
or across disciplines. All Graduate Certificate programs must follow a
planned course of study with a minimum of 12 graduate semester hours and no
more than 24 semester hours. If your department sees advantages to
developing a Graduate Certificate program, please contact Ms. Louise Skinner
at 886-5162 or louise_skinner at tamu-commerce.edu for more details.
