University Community:
Just a reminder that at the February 27, 2007, meeting, Deans Council
unanimously approved requiring all new first-time/full-time students with
less than 30 semester credit hours to enroll in a one-hour First-Year
Success Seminar (FSS). Course sections will be offered by each college. The
course is entitled Theory and Application of Learning and Critical Thinking
on our course inventory and various sections are listed for each college in
the fall schedule. Most sections will meet for the first eight weeks of the
semester. We ask that all advisors please include a section in the fall
schedules of our first-year students (sections have been created with
college prefixes for students based on their academic majors or areas of
interest and there are designated sections within each college for
undeclared majors). All sections of the course will use the same textbook
and have a common syllabus. Therefore, if there are problems scheduling a
student in the section designated for his/her major, the student may be
placed in another section of the course with the college prefix. Dr. Bill
Thompson is coordinating the First-Year Success (FSS) initiative. If you
have any questions, please contact him for assistance.
Thank you for your assistance and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow at
the New Student Registration/Orientation session.
