Re. Open Hearing on the Evaluation of Teaching at A&M-Commerce

Colleagues:

The Faculty Senate at A&M-Commerce is all set for the academic year 2006-07.
Please visit our web site (www.tamu-commerce.edu
<http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/> and click on administration/office of
president/faculty senate) and see our mission, agendas of forthcoming
meetings, meeting dates and minutes, the membership list (consisting of a
total of 24 senators, one faculty member from each academic department, and
one from the library science), and the committee list (a total of 9
committees).

On behalf of my colleagues in the senate, I invite you to attend our monthly
meetings and/or send your input or ideas through the senator from your
department and the library. You can also contact any of our committee
chairs on any matter of concern. Some of the committees will be announcing
faculty issues they are working on and may hold open hearings when needed.
In order to become an effective group, it is imperative that we receive your
input.

One of the top priorities of faculty senate this year is to address the
issue of credibility of the process of evaluation of teaching. We plan to
develop ideas on procedures used for evaluating teaching in our university.
The Academic Life Committee of the senate will hold an open hearing on that
topic on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 2:00 PM in STC (new science
building), Room 127. You are invited to attend that hearing and allow us to
take note of your ideas relevant to the evaluation of teaching and ways to
improve it. We are hoping to develop a revised procedure for teaching
evaluation by the end of this semester. I hope you can join our discussion.
Thank you.

Sincerely,

R. N. Singh, President, Faculty Senate
