The initiation for the Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Societies
will take place on April 17, 2006, at 6:30 PM, in Hall of Languages 203. To
be eligible for membership, a student has to earn a GPA of 3.5 or above
during the first semester of the freshman year or during the entire freshman
year. The initiation ceremony is open. Everyone is invited to attend. I hope
faculty members will attend to honor these outstanding students.
For several years, we did not have an Alpha Lambda Delta chapter on campus.
Last year, Phi Eta Sigma took Alpha Lambda Delta under its wing and
reestablished the chapter. We are now looking for a faculty adviser for
Alpha Lambda Delta. I would appreciate it if anyone interested in the task
would contact me.
We are also looking for someone to replace me as adviser of Phi Eta Sigma. I
have two more years of modified employment. Before the end of that time, I
would like to have new advisers for Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta in
place.
I would hate to see these two honor societies cease to exist on our campus.
Both offer students undergraduate and graduate scholarships as well as
numerous opportunities for improvement. For example, members of Alpha Lambda
Delta receive $500 scholarships for the Washington Internship Institute,
placing students from around the nation in intern programs in our nation's
capital.
I sincerely hope faculty members are willing to serve as advisers for both.
If they so desire, I'll be glad to work with incoming advisers for the next
two years to help them get ready to assume their positions as advisers.

information about both organizations can be found at these sites.
