[Vpaaetal] Audit problems due to course renumberings

The registrar's office has made changes to the course
inventory to reflect any course renumberings requested
by departments as part of the curriculum changes
submitted last semester.
This affects degree audits which include any of those
courses whose numbers have changed. When the audit
program matches a student's courses against requirements,
it first replaces each occurrence of an old number with its
replacement number. A requirement for an old course number
will be ignored because it no longer recognizes any of the old
numbers. This means that students who have taken a
renumbered course under its old number will suddenly see that
course listed as still required, and the course which formerly
satisfied that requirement will now probably appear as a free
elective instead of being used in the major.
To fix these problems, I have to change every occurrence of
an old number in all requirements for all catalog years to reflect
the new number. Depending on how many courses have been
renumbered and how often they appear in requirements, this
can take some time. Until I can complete the process, students
will be reporting problems with their audits. Please reassure your
students that this is a temporary problem which does not require
any action on their part, and that the problem is being resolved
as quickly as possible. I'll send out another notification as soon
as I have completed the necessary changes.
Thanks for your patience,
Sandy Huerter
