MEMORANDUM

To: Members of Faculty and Professional Staff, Texas A&M University-Commerce

From: R. N. Singh, Faculty Senate

Dated: August 30, 2004

Subject: Planning Activities of the Faculty Senate for 2004-05

Colleagues, we will begin our plans for this academic year in our first
senate meeting next Tuesday, September 7, 2004. We will need your ideas and
help in finalizing our plans. On behalf of the senate, I request you to
send me your input and ideas, particularly on matters related to the
following areas of activities.

	1.	One important aspect of the functioning of faculty senate is
to review, update, and develop academic procedures and rules of the
university. Please send us your suggestions about which of the already
existing procedures and rules need to be examined or reviewed, and in what
way and to what extent they should be updated or revised.

	2.	Please let us know if you have any new or additional
concerns that need to be addressed by the senate this year. One of our
colleagues sent me an e-mail last week to address the issue of 'salary
compression.' I will be presenting your concerns to the senate for initial
discussions and, through its consent, assigning them to appropriate senate
committees for study and recommendations.

	3.	Our faculty senate is a member of the Texas A&M University
System's Faculty Senate. We can, therefore, also make recommendations to
that body review and amend any of the System's Academic Policies, if we
choose to do so. Please let us know if you have concerns about any of those
policies. All policies and procedures are on our university's web (under
'administration') for your information.

	4.	We are planning to have a web site for our senate. It will
include linkages to relevant web sites, our announcements about forthcoming
activities and deadlines (such as ones related to faculty and staff awards),
rosters of senators and senate committees, agendas of the forthcoming senate
as well as committee meetings and open hearings, minutes of senate meetings,
a space for comments and suggestions, and so forth. Any suggestions in
helping us develop a meaningful web site will be most appreciated.

For now, you may send comments and suggestions on the above and other
matters to me (Raghu_Singh at tamu-commerce.edu
<mailto:Raghu_Singh at tamu-commerce.edu> ), tel. 903-886-5324. You can
indicate if you would like your suggestions to be presented anonymously.
Thank you.
