Hello again, TX-SPEED listserv folks. At the TACRAO
meeting in Addison, we discussed a strategy for rolling out the TREx
electronic transcript project for Texas high schools sending to Texas
colleges. We are to assist by doing the following: (1) verify
readiness to receive on
the part of colleges and (2) use our TACRAO volunteer colleges to help
test and certify readiness of Texas high schools.<br>
<br>
Tim Tashjian, UT Austin, sent a message last week to those who
volunteered to test with high schools. <br>
<br>
Today's e-mail is for all Texas
colleges, <b>providing a mechanism for them to record their readiness
and
willingness to accept TREx transcripts </b>(in SPEEDE/ExPRESS EDI
format
via the UT Austin Server) from those high schools which have tested
satisfactorily with one of the volunteer schools. Here's how you do
that.<br>
<br>
Links and other SPEEDE/TREx information,
including readiness status for colleges/universities, can be found at <a
href="http://registrar.utexas.edu/speede/trex/">http://registrar.utexas.edu/speede/trex/</a>.
That page has links for:<br>
(a) the testing process for colleges and universities - <b>READ THIS</b><br>
(b) TREx readiness status of colleges - the list to which we would like
to add your school<br>
(c) Texas colleges and universities willing to test with high schools
and report their readiness.<br>
(d) TEA TREx site.<br>
<br>
TEA has expanded the number of sample transcripts on their TREx web
site, under
IHE Tools, or you may reach it from a "TREX EDI Examples from TEA" link
in the first bullet on the testing process link (above). This lists
ten sample student TREx transcripts, Student File 1.txt thru Student
File 10.txt. (It also lists the XML files used to pull the data from
the high schools, but you won't use that in testing.) You may copy and
paste these into text data files, or possibly right click and Save-As.
Run these transcripts through the Q & E or your school's
software to make sure it works to your satisfaction.<br>
<p class="MsoNormal">The TREx College and University Testing section
includes a link for downloading the beta version of the revised
Quick & Easy software which can print high school transcripts and
generate acknowledgments. (I route my print output to a file, then set
font as Lucida sans Typewrite font at 8 point in order to get the
printed transcript to fit on the page - you may not need to do that).<br>
</p>
Once you determine that you are ready to handle electronic TREx
transcripts and treat them as official credentials, <b>please contact</b>
<a href="mailto:regist@ediserver.utexas.edu">regist@ediserver.utexas.edu</a>
and <b>report that you are ready</b>. You may also approach that
address
with questions, or requests to change your listing at the
above speede/trex site.<br>
<br>
This message is being posted to both TACRAO and TX-SPEED listservs.
If you are on both, you may send one of the messages to a friend.<br>
<br>
Thanks.<br>

p.s. - Later this week, we expect to send a message
about registration for the Texas SPEEDE User Group meeting, announced
earlier for <b>Thursday, May 8</b>.
The program will again be within the 9 AM - 4 PM timeframe. We
are moving back to the MCC facility in Austin, which is pretty close to
the
Pickle Research Center where we've been the last several years. We
will discuss the TREx project in more depth at that meeting.<br>
