[Tx-speed] TREx code fixed Dec 13 at 6 PM

TACRAO and TX-SPEED. Good news. TEA informs me that the revised coding
went into place at 6 PM Tuesday evening, so most TREx transcripts you
receive henceforth should not have that problem (of Quick and Easy
software not printing courses).

TEA has notified high schools that they ought to resend transcripts from
the affected date range. That may or may not happen. You may use the
contact info on the transcript to contact the high school and request a
retransmission if you'd like, or you may edit the EDI file as described
below, and the print should be correct.

And Nancy, yes, there is a Santa Claus. You do not need to upgrade your
QnE version because of this.

All for now. Happy holidays everyone. Dave

So, since I'm not really technically inclined, and I hardly know a
delimiter from a megabyte, does this mean that we can continue to use
the newest version of the QNE software or should we wait for another
update? J

TACRAO (and also TX-SPEED): Here's a follow-up to my earlier message.
Thanks to quick diagnostic work by Glenn Shelton and James Maness at TEA
and Stephan Baley and Tom Yu at UT Austin, the problem has been isolated.

The problem affected the print from the (free) Quick and Easy software.
It may or may not have affected other print or load programs. The gist
of the problem was that a code identifying these as high school
transcripts (district to postsecondary) was missing from the Educational
Purpose Record (ERP). In the EDI file for TREx transcripts, the record
segments would have ISA and GS for the envelope, then ST, BGN, ERP, and
REF. Before the new release was put in at 6 PM December 6, the ERP
segment should have looked like ERP*DP*~ (you might have specified
different delimiters than the * and ~, but the codes are the same).
After the conversion, it was just ERP**~.

TEA will get the problem corrected. I don't know whether the
contractors for TREx can correct and re-transmit the affected
transcripts. TEA may have to ask the high schools to re-request them,
and that could be hit or miss. I found that I could use Notepad to
edit the delimited EDI file and insert the DP code, and save the file.
Q&E then produced the desired printout, including the courses. Or put
another way, Courses, not foiled again.

Have a great holiday.
Dave

Good morning, TACRAO. A new release of TREx was implemented at 6 PM on
December 6. The TREx transcripts I received which were produced after
that time did not yield any printed course records when I ran them
through Q&E, although the EDI files did have CRS records. TEA is
investigating. Please stay tuned. Dave Stones
