We do the same. We have 1 ceremony and the student chooses which degree to walk with and the 2nd degree is announced when the student walks. We also list the student in both places in the commencement program.

Subject: [TACRAO] Listserv Allowing Students to Walk Twice During a Single Commencement Ceremony

Good Evening Everyone:

UMHB holds a single commencement ceremony for all colleges and all degrees (undergraduate and graduate)-one ceremony in May and one ceremony in December. Undergraduate students march alphabetically under the college awarding their degree. UMHB has seven undergraduate colleges. All graduate degrees are awarded by the Graduate School, so graduate students march alphabetically by degree (MA, MBA, MEd, etc.).

At almost every ceremony, at least one student receives two degrees. The student could be receiving two bachelor's degrees (a bachelor's degree from College 1 and a bachelor's degree from College 2) or a bachelor's degree and a master's degree or a master's degree and a doctorate degree. To date, however, such students only have been allowed to walk once during the ceremony. Students receiving two bachelor's degrees have been asked to choose one college under which to walk. Students receiving a bachelor's degree and a master's degree or a master's degree and a doctorate degree have been instructed to walk under the higher degree. Nonetheless, the students' names are listed under each respective college/degree in the commencement program and both degrees are announced when the students' cross the stage.

A May 2015 graduate receiving two degrees is challenging this historical practice.

For those institutions with commencement arrangements similar to UMHB's, how are students like those described above handled? Are they allowed to walk twice during a single ceremony? If so, how are the logistics of lining up the students twice handled?
