Hi all!

My name is Mollie Jamar and I am a graduate student at Texas A&M University Commerce School of Social Work. As part of a class requirement for SWK 595, I am inviting you to complete the following electronic questionnaire. The purpose of this class exercise is not intended to generate new knowledge or lead to a scholarly presentation or publication. It is solely a learning activity to assist me in developing skills in and understanding various aspects of the research process.

Description of the Study and Your Part in It

Rebecca G. Judd, Ph.D., LCDC. LMSW-IPR and Mollie Jamar are inviting you to take part in a research study. Rebecca G. Judd is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce in the School of Social Work. Mollie Jamar is a student at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The purpose of this research is to gain insight into emotional competency and burnout in the workplace.

Your part in the study will be to complete a two-part self-administered questionnaire. This questionnaire is designed to capture information in the following areas: emotional awareness, self regulation and burnout identifiers related to work stress. Questions to check the presence of work burnout in social work professions and the presence of emotional competency are included. It will take you about 10 minutes to complete the study.

Risks and Discomforts
There will be minimal risks, no more than that expected in daily life. You may feel a little uncomfortable answering some questions regarding your stress, self awareness and work environment. All of your information and survey responses will be kept confidential.

Possible Benefits
We do not know of any way you would benefit directly from taking part in this study. However, this research may help us to understand if emotional competency is associated with burnout among social workers.

Incentives
No financial or other compensation will be offered for participation in this study.

Protection of Privacy and Confidentiality
We will do everything we can to protect your privacy and confidentiality. We will not tell anybody outside of the research team that you were in this study or what information we collected about you in particular. We might be required to share the information we collect from you with the Texas A&M University-Commerce Office of Research Compliance and the federal Office for Human Research Protections. If this happens, the information would only be used to find out if we ran this study properly and protected your rights in the study. Completed questionnaires will be stored in School of Social Work in a locked file cabinet and Dr. Judd will have access to all data to ensure confidentiality. The data will be stored approximately three years after the study has completed and then destroyed.

Voluntary Participation and Withdrawal
You do not have to be in this study. You may choose not to take part and you may choose to stop taking part at any time. Participation is voluntary. Refusal to participate or withdraw at any time will not involve any penalty or loss of benefits, to which the subject is otherwise entitled. You will not be punished in any way if you decide not to be in the study or to stop taking part in the study. You may choose to stop taking part in this study after today. If you do, we will remove your information from the study. However, if we have already completed our research analysis, we will not be able to remove your information from the study.
