“Working with CPS through the Challenges”
Social workers often find themselves in challenging situations when faced with a need to make a CPS referral. Social workers may be uncertain of what constitutes a need for CPS intervention. Social Workers may be unsure of what information needs to be gathered in order to make an effective CPS referral/intake. Social workers may also feel a conflict in deciding how to keep a client safe while maintaining standards of professional confidentiality. This workshop will increase the professional social worker’s knowledge and skills by exploring these issues and meeting the following objectives:
· Increase the social worker’s knowledge about the process of making a CPS referral
· Increase the social worker’s skills in gathering information and making an effective CPS referral
· Increase the social worker’s knowledge by exploring ambiguous areas and clearly defining what necessitates CPS referral
This workshop will be held at Covenant Christian Church at 2055 SE Loop 286 in Paris, Tx on April 11, 2014 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Cindy Whatley, a social worker and investigation supervisor for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services will facilitate this training in conjunction with TAMU-C represented by Clint Hocutt and Patsy Boshears. This presentation has been approved for 3 hours of Social Work CEU’s. This training will cost $25.00 per person and is free to NASW members (all profits will be forwarded to the NASW). Please join us for this interactive workshop. Bring the stories and question you have experienced in your practice and let us discuss them with CPS staff. After this workshop you will feel more confident in working with CPS through the challenges.
