Subject: Professional Development in Acudetox

Dear Dr. Brent Mangus:
The Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the first and oldest
school of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Texas, is pleased to
offer training in acudetox protocols to eligible professionals in the
fields of health care and social work. The 70-hour training program
offered by the College is approved by the Texas Medical Board.
Acudetox is an acupuncture-based protocol used in the treatment of
alcoholism, substance abuse, and chemical dependency; it is an
evidence-based treatment methodology and is regulated by statute and by
the regulatory authority of the Texas Medical Board's Board of
Acupuncture Examiners. This safe, simple, and effective treatment
technique involves the stimulation of five readily identifiable
acupuncture points on the ear and works by releasing naturally occurring
chemicals in the body that ease the symptoms of withdrawal and help
fight addiction.
Under existing statute and regulation, a range of professionals are
eligible for licensure as acudetox specialists: Licensed social workers;
Licensed professional counselors; Licensed psychologists; Licensed
chemical dependency counselors; Licensed vocational nurses; and Licensed
registered nurses. These qualified professionals will be eligible for
certification through the Medical Board after successful completion of
our 70-hour training program.
It is our hope that we might be able to work together to identify
qualified professionals who might be interested to learn more about
acudetox and the range of benefits it can offer. For more information
please contact me at (512) 444-8082 or acudetox at texastcm.edu, or visit
our Web site at www.texastcm.edu/acudetox.html. If you are willing to
post an informational flyer at your institution, please respond and I
would be happy to send one to you.
Sincerely,
Thomas Fawcett, M.A.
