The meeting was opened with introductions, followed by a BBQ lunch provided
mostly by Chuck Nash, and others brought salads, side dishes, fresh tomatoes
and peppers, and desserts. TAMU-C provided the plates, utensils, cups, and
napkins. Thanks to Lauren Olvera and Lakes Regional for hosting, Chuck for
cooking, TAMU-C, and everyone who brought the other goodies!
The group discussed announcements and updates from their agencies. The
group concurred that having a centralized meeting location would be better
than trying to schedule meetings at various locations. The tentative plan
is to hold future meetings at Ben E. Keith, located in Commerce. Although
our regularly scheduled meeting time is the 4th Tuesday, the next meeting is
set for August 29th at noon, so mark your calendars. Bring your own lunch
for this one. The subsequent meetings are scheduled for September 26th and
November 28th. Lunch for these meetings will be addressed during the August
meeting.
Brian Brumley will take over as Leadership Search Chair (LSC) for the
Northeast Texas Chapter of the NASW on July 1, 2006. The group also
discussed the recent resignation of Joyce Foreman from Chair of the NASW
Northeast Texas Chapter, and possible replacements to serve the remaining
two years of the three year Chair term. The TAMU-C Cluster is part of the
Northeast Texas Chapter, which is located in Tyler. The hope for the
Chapter in replacing the Chair is to find someone from the northern end of
the region. The Chair position and replacement criteria will be discussed
at the next Cluster meeting.
Further discussion focused on making sure that all students and social work
professionals in this area are invited to attend the Cluster meetings.
Membership recruitment was addressed and will be revisited at future
meetings, as will discussions about CEUs for NASW members and non-members.
The meeting was followed by a 1 hour CEU workshop on Ethics provided by
Patsy Boshears.
Possible CEU workshops include: Winnsboro Heritage Program, Glen Oaks
Hospital, and:
Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville Texoma Behavioral
Center (Sherman)
