Good morning,
In case you did not previously have the student organization handbook, attached is an electronic copy.
I have had a few questions recently about fundraising and want to provide some clarifications. You can do fundraising campaigns such as selling t-shirts or food (if selling food, it CANNOT be in/around the RSC). Organizations CANNOT do raffles as student organizations do not meet the qualified organization threshold for a raffle. "Only a qualified religious society that has been in existence in Texas for at least 10 years; a qualified volunteer fire department that operates firefighting equipment, provides fire-fighting services and that does not pay its members other than nominal compensation; a qualified volunteer emergency medical service that does not pay its members other than nominal compensation; or a qualified 501(c) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization that has been in existence for at least three years may hold raffles in Texas under CREA." If you are having a "raffle" and saying you have a chance to win a prize after a person pays you, it is considered gambling and a Class A misdemeanor. There are alternatives to raffles, such as a silent auction.
