Dear Lion community:

Many of you have expressed a desire to respond to the massive crises brought on by the twin hurricanes in Puerto Rico.  Our own Dr. Johanna Delgado-Acevedo, puertorriqueña, has offer to coordinate our efforts to respond.
Below is her message, and together with suggestions as to what you might consider providing and how, if you choose, to become involved.

The humanitarian needs surrounds these hurricanes are immense.  As you may know, Dr. Lavelle Hendricks took a class in crisis management this past Sunday-Wednesday to Houston.  And our football team, returning from a commanding win over A&M-Kingsville, stopped at Port Aransas and spent last Sunday cleaning up shorelines and the city cemetery there.

Each of us reaches out to multiple communities, and I know many at the University are already committed to various forms of hurricane relief.

If you would like to help citizens in Puerto Rico, Americans facing 4-6 months without electricity, Dr. Delgado's message offers you a way to serve.    Grateful for each of you,      Ray

Dear Dr. Keck: thank you for receiving me today and for all your support. It was an honor to meet you. Here is a summary of what we need.

Hurricane María tore across the island of Puerto Rico on September 20th destroying houses, ripping down power lines, causing severe damage to power and water plants. Thousands of Puerto Ricans are without homes, 100% have no power or potable water; it is a humanitarian crisis.  We are going to rebuild the Island with all the love, happiness and enthusiasm that we have for life and Texas A&M-Commerce will contribute to the recovery. We are collecting batteries, flashlights, solar lanterns, solar chargers, portable solar energy lamps, clothing, first-aid kits, awnings, blankets, insect repellent, diapers, and wipes.
