Hello,
The Sam Rayburn House Museum is hosting its annual Quilt Hop on Friday, July 24 from 1-4:30pm and on Saturday, July 25 from 8am-4:30pm. The event focuses on quilts from the Museum's collection and the history of quilting at the Rayburn home. This year we will feature quilts from the Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site in Paris, TX. The event is free and includes free tours of the house and refreshments.
I'm contacting you today to ask for your help in recruiting student volunteers to assist with the Quilt Hop. We will need volunteers to assist with giving tours, answering visitor questions and directing visitors, assisting with a hands-on activity for children, set-up and clean-up following the event. Dress is casual and some of the activities take place outside, so dressing for the weather is important. We provide lunch to any volunteers who are with us over the noon hour.
This is a great opportunity for students from Texas A&M University--Commerce to add some volunteer service to their resumes. The event is a fun way to meet new people, learn about local history and earn volunteer service time.
Please ask any interested students to contact me at anne.ruppert at thc.state.tx.us<mailto:anne.ruppert at thc.state.tx.us> or 903-583-5558.
Thanks so much!
Anne
