STEPS IN DEVELOPING A PROJECT
1. REMEMBER THE RULES
Projects should be completed in one day
Projects should enhance the appearance, facilities, or safety of the
community
Project cost, labor and equipment are the responsibilities of those
proposing a project; however, the Chamber of Commerce will assist in
recruiting volunteers, equipment and financial support for approved
projects.
2. BRAINSTORM
Think outside the box. With friends, colleagues or fellow club members,
think about what Commerce needs. List all the items offered. You can
pick among them later. Ask yourself, how should Commerce look to
attract students, business, or new residents? What facilities are
needed for young, elderly, or persons with handicaps? Are there
recreational facilities needed or are there improvements you could
propose for current facilities? How safe is Commerce? Are our
neighborhoods organized into Neighborhood Watch groups? Are street
signs free from obscuring bushes and trees? Are house numbers clearly
visible from the street? Are the citizens informed with regard to fire
safety? What could be painted, planted, pruned or picked up that would
improve the appearance of the town?
3. NARROW YOUR CHOICES
Evaluate each idea with regard to the following issues:
Time needed - remember you have one day
Cost - the cost must be borne by those developing the project
Appropriateness - project should improve the community, projects
improving the property of an individual should be charitable in nature.
Safety - we want no one hurt in carrying out our projects - plan
carefully.
COMPLETE PROJECT PROPOSAL FORM
Submit it to the Chamber of Commerce at 1114 Main or mail it to P. O.
Box 290, Commerce, TX 75429. The Chamber will certify the
appropriateness of the project and help find resources.
