<p class="MsoNormal">Holiday season is often the best time for Internet fraudsters to send spam or pop-up messages to lure personal and financial information from you. These emails may look legitimate but are really targeted “Spear Phishing” attacks. The weakest
link to any secure system is a human being. Attackers know this and because of that, phishing has evolved from blast emails that they hope will catch a few to targeted messages to specific individuals. A lot of your personal information is on the internet
(LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.). Attackers review this before they send out their messages.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Please know that Center for IT Excellence (CITE) will never send you an email that requests you click on a link and enter personal information. So, if you get an email requesting you to do so, please don’t click on any links. Call the
help desk if you have any questions. We can block spam and phishing attacks before they get to your email if we know about them.

<p class="MsoNormal">How can you tell if you received a suspicious email? You can hover your cursor over a link (don’t click!) to reveal the actual link. In a phishing scam this often will be a URL which you won’t recognize and is different from what is visible.

<p class="MsoPlainText">Phishing scams are attempts to get you to provide private information about yourself by pretending to be a legitimate company or organization or an attempt to infect your computer.<o:p></o:p></p>
