Chili’s restaurant in Greenville has partnered with our Student Veteran Association to help us raise funds! Now supporting Texas A&M University – Commerce Student Veterans is as easy as going out to eat! Just bring the attached flyer in with you anytime on Monday, July 9th and Chili’s will donate 10% of the days sales to the SVA!

This event is designed to help the Veterans raise funds for the current top three goals of the SVA: their own "Give Back" projects around the community; provide refreshments for volunteer events and the Veteran Appreciation Ball in November and help the SVA members establish a study and research area in the Veteran's lounge.

We have found that many of the Veterans coming in to school have not been to school in a while and need a little bit of support adjusting. It is hard for many to relate to the “normal” college student here because of age and life experience differences. This Association allows Veterans to befriend and get help from people with a shared life experience. Our goal is to create a long lasting partnership within the community of Commerce while providing solid role models and leaders throughout the college campus.

The SVA provides an important social service to Veterans coming into the next phase of their lives. Many Veterans are coming into school now with PTSD issues and have a bit of a rocky transition. The SVA provides links to the Disability Services offices, hosts monthly seminars with the same offices, arranges tutors for academic assistance, and provides a Veterans Lounge as a neutral place where Veterans can go to decompress. An organization like this provides Veterans with the reassurance that they are not going through this transition alone and that there are other people on campus who can relate to them.

It is a wonderful organization and cause and we greatly appreciate your support!

Jill Mobley

Secretary, Student Veteran Association

Texas A&M University - Commerce
