Students, Faculty and Staff<br>

As of May 5, 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the
Center for Disease Control released a statement stating the H1N1 virus is
believed to be less severe than once suspected and that schools are no longer
being urged to close. Texas A&M University-Commerce still considers the
situation a priority and will continue to monitor the information made
available and will stay in contact with local, state, and federal officials to
maintain the preparedness and protection of our university community.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:12.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>While
the H1N1 flu is contagious, it is still not known at this time how easily the
virus spreads between people. Health officials believe it may spread in
similar ways to the seasonal flu. Texas A&M University-Commerce
continues to urge faculty, staff, and students to be aware of the importance of
good hygiene practices to prevent further occurrences of illness. You are
advised to follow standard precautions to reduce the spread of any respiratory
illness: <o:p></o:p></span></p>
