<p class=MsoNormal>Commerce, Texas—In accordance with Texas Education Code Section
54.0513, officials at Texas A&M University-Commerce have scheduled three
public hearings to address a proposed increase in designated tuition for the
2010 academic year.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>The three public hearings will take place on<o:p></o:p></p>

a.m.

<p class=MsoNormal>The range of increase under consideration and the proposed
use of those additional revenues will be presented and explained. The
actual increase will be dependent upon legislative funding. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>The University also plans to implement tuition assurance
models for Fall 2009. A full-time entering student with 30 hours or less
can choose a guaranteed rate schedule for four years. A full-time
entering student with more than 30 hours can choose a guaranteed rate schedule
for two years.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Designated tuition is a general use fee authorized by the
Texas Education Code that universities use as part of a student’s total tuition
costs. Texas A&M University-Commerce’s present designated tuition is
$84 per semester credit hour, which ranks below the average of the designated tuition
rates of the 34 public universities in Texas.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>The University will seek authority from the Texas A&M
University System Board of Regents at its March meeting to increase designated
tuition for Texas A&M University-Commerce.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>A&M-Commerce is not alone in seeking an increase in
designated tuition; most state universities are looking at similar proposals.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>All interested are welcome and invited to attend this
important hearing. <o:p></o:p></p>
