Texas A&M University-Commerce senior guard Britney Jordan is currently featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd section after totaling 64 points in consecutive victories over Midwestern State and Tarleton State in mid-December.

“It feels good to earn some news like that,” said Jordan, who leads the nation in scoring with 30.1 points per game. “But it felt even better seeing how happy the people close to me felt. Especially my team!”

Faces in the Crowd is part of the popular magazine that features amateur athletes from around the nation that have recently excelled in their sport.

“This is a great honor for her to be recognized nationally by one of the premier sports magazines, and I think it’s an even bigger honor for our university to have its name in Sports Illustrated,” said Lions head basketball coach Denny Downing. “To get publicity through our student-athletes is when we really understand the value of our student-athletes.”

Jordan recorded 30 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals in the Lions’ 79-72 victory over Midwestern St., and followed with 34 points, eight rebounds and seven steals in the 65-57 win over Tarleton. She also earned her third Lone Star Conference Player of the Week award this season for her efforts during that week.

A&M-Commerce has since won five of its last seven games and is 8-4 overall this season. Jordan has led the Lions in scoring in all but one game this year, and recently fired in a career-high 53 points against Abilene Christian. She has also scored at least 30 in seven contests and is averaging 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game.

The All-American candidate leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring and 3-point field goals made per game (2.8), and ranks second in steals.

Jordan is featured in the Jan. 12, 2009 issue, which can also be viewed at www.si.com/faces. Since the section began on Jan. 9, 1956, many athletes including Tiger Woods, Emmitt Smith, Chamique Holdsclaw and Tim Tebow have also been selected as Faces in the Crowd.
