Good morning,
Applications are currently open for the 2019-2020 Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Non-Voting Student Representative and the 2019-2020 Texas A&M University System Student Regent positions.

THECB Non-Voting Student Representative
Powers and Duties:
A non-voting student representative is not a state officer. A non-voting student representative has the same powers and duties as the members of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, including the right to attend and participate in meetings of the board, except that the student representative may not vote on any matter before the board or make motions, and is not counted in determining quorum or outcomes of any vote of the board.

Qualifications For THECB Non-Voting Student Representative:
-Be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a public institution of higher education;
-Be in good academic standing as determined by the institution;
-Commit to fulfill all board related responsibilities during their term of service, to include attendance at no less than 3 of 4 quarterly board meetings scheduled in January, April, July, and October;
-Have a strong drive and self-motivation to contribute to the progress of higher education in Texas A&M University - Commerce;
-Student must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA on a four-point scale to maintain position on the Coordinating Board

Texas A&M University System Student Regent
Powers and Duties:
Meets quarterly with the A&M Board of Regents with special meetings arranged as needed, travels to campus visits, social activities and travel to board meetings. Although the Student Regent is not a member of the Board of Regents he/she has the same powers and duties as the members of the board, including the right to attend and participate in Board meetings; however, the student regent may not vote on any matter before the board or make motions before the board, and is not counted in determining quorum or determining the outcome of any Board vote.

Qualifications for Student Regent:
To be considered eligible for appointment as student regent, a person must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a general academic teaching institution or medical and dental unit in the university system and be in good academic standing as determined by the institution at the time of appointment. The person must remain enrolled at the institution throughout the person's term as a student regent. For purposes of this subsection, a person is considered to be enrolled in an institution or unit for a summer term if the person was enrolled in the institution or unit for the preceding semester and:
-is registered or preregistered at the institution or unit for the following fall semester;
-if the person has not completed the person's degree program, is eligible to continue the degree program at the institution or unit in the following fall semester; or
-if the person completed a degree program in the preceding semester, is admitted to another degree program at the institution or unit for the following fall semester.

Applications for both the positions are attached to this email. Both applications require completion of the Governor Appointment Application as well. Applications need to be submitted to me in paper copy, typed, by November 1st. As a reminder, these positions are for the 2019-2020 academic year.
