Attending A&M-Commerce in the fall and want to apply for financial aid - the fall of 2018 ?
No, it is not a typo. It is for the fall of next year, as in 2018.
The 18-19 FAFSA is now available at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__fafsa.gov&d=DwIFAg&c=oqyuZuih6ykib6aKiBq22_bich4AVfYGoLertJN0bEc&r=d7mEB2p2506frt6QpEuAWJ8K3NYabkARjALZdNKKn6A&m=UX07LFTjeovhA4IDrrLYpqeGGEQyUv4Qpox9RrqnUls&s=BffW_RY58qMvWCDNt_9fr0OExbEQ4raHLPeBvUB4rXs&e=
The 2018-2019 TASFA is now available at College For All Texans <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.collegeforalltexans.com_index.cfm-3Fobjectid-3DA3119543-2DCBF8-2DC202-2DF1B0EEFD5F4B9805&d=DwIFAg&c=oqyuZuih6ykib6aKiBq22_bich4AVfYGoLertJN0bEc&r=d7mEB2p2506frt6QpEuAWJ8K3NYabkARjALZdNKKn6A&m=UX07LFTjeovhA4IDrrLYpqeGGEQyUv4Qpox9RrqnUls&s=KPjhzFaG9SYd_aJqsWrYETCoJsa6S5qyr77Exal4JvI&e= >
The TASFA is still a paper form which when completed needs to be printed and signed when submitting to the school. All documents, as the instructions indicate, need to be included when filing the 18-19 TASFA.
Both the 18-19 FAFSA and the 18-19 TASFA will require 2016 income tax return data.
For those students completing the FAFSA, the IRS Data Retrieval System is back on line.
Why use the IRS Data Retrieval and does it work the same?
1. The income data section of the FAFSA will be completed with actual 2016 income data directly from the IRS. The income verification process is faster since the data will come directly from the IRS as filed for the 2016 year.
Applicants do not have a choice between income years. The 18-19 FAFSA will use the income tax filed for 2016. If income changes from 2016 to 2017 are anticipated then the Special Circumstances option may be available depending on your unique circumstances.
2. If you use the IRS data retrieval system to complete the 18-19 FAFSA you will not see the income data on the FAFSA. You will see the statement "Transferred from the IRS" in each of the income sections where the transfer was successful.
Who cannot use the IRS Data Retrieval System?
1. Married students who filed separate 2016 income tax returns
2. Married parents who filed separate 2016 income tax returns
3. Students and/or parents who amended their 2016 income tax returns
It's time to start completing the 18-19 FAFSA / 1819 TASFA.
